Cookie Policy
This page lists the cookies and similar technologies this website uses, what each one does, how long it lasts, and how to refuse the ones that are not strictly necessary. We keep the list short on purpose: a site with five sections and one form does not need a tracking stack.
01 What a cookie is
A cookie is a small text file that a website asks your browser to store. On a later visit the browser sends it back, which lets the site recognise the same device. Related technologies do similar jobs: local storage keeps a value in the browser without sending it anywhere, and a pixel is a tiny image request that records that a page was loaded.
We use the word cookie in this policy to cover all of these, because the practical question is the same in each case: what is stored, why, and for how long.
02 Why we use them
- To keep the site working — routing requests, protecting the form against automated abuse, and remembering that a page has loaded correctly.
- To remember one preference — whether you chose the inverted page theme, so the site does not reset to the light version every time you open a new page.
- To count visits in aggregate — how many people reached the programs section and how many reached enrollment, without identifying who they were.
We run no advertising cookies, no retargeting pixels, no cross-site identifiers and no data brokers. Nothing on this site follows you to another site.
03 The cookies we set
| Name | Type | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
| sl-theme | Preference | Stores whether the page is displayed in its light or inverted state. Set only when you press the aperture control. | Until you clear browser storage |
| _secure_session_id | Essential | Set by our ecommerce platform to maintain a browsing session and keep page requests consistent. | Session |
| _shopify_y | Analytics | Distinguishes one visitor from another for aggregate visit counts on the platform's own dashboard. | Up to 12 months |
| _shopify_s | Analytics | Distinguishes one visit from another so a single person is not counted twice in a day. | 30 minutes |
| _cmp_a | Essential | Records your cookie choice so the site does not ask again on every page. | Up to 12 months |
Cookie names and durations set by our platform can change when the platform updates. Where that happens we revise this table rather than leaving it stale, and the effective date at the top of the page moves with it.
04 Fonts and other third-party requests
The typefaces used on this site are served from a third-party font service. Loading a font makes a request that includes your IP address and browser type. No cookie is set by that request and we receive no report about it, but it is a third-party connection and we would rather name it than let you discover it in a network panel.
If a session is delivered remotely, the video conferencing provider we name to you will set its own cookies inside its own application. That is outside this website and is governed by that provider's policy.
05 What we do not do
- We do not build advertising profiles or sell audience segments.
- We do not embed social network trackers, comment widgets or share buttons that phone home.
- We do not use session recording or heat mapping tools that replay what you did on the page.
- We do not fingerprint devices to identify you across browsers.
- We do not combine analytics data with the details you type into the enrollment form.
06 Your choices
In the browser
Every current browser lets you block or delete cookies, either for all sites or one at a time, in its privacy settings. Blocking essential cookies may break the enrollment form or reset your theme choice on every page, but nothing else on this site depends on them.
Refusing analytics
Where a consent notice appears, declining the non-essential category stops the analytics cookies in the table above from being written. You can change that decision at any time by clearing the site's cookies and choosing again on your next visit.
Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control
We honour Global Privacy Control signals sent by your browser, and we treat a Do Not Track header as a request to keep analytics off for that visit.
07 Cookies and personal information
Some cookie identifiers are personal information under privacy laws, because they can single out a device. Where that is the case, the rights described in our Privacy Policy apply to them: you may ask what is held, ask for deletion, and object to a use you did not agree to. Write to the records mailbox below.
08 Children
This site is aimed at adults and we do not knowingly set cookies for anyone under eighteen. We do not run any cookie designed to reach a younger audience.
09 Updates
We review this policy whenever we add a tool that stores anything in your browser, and at least once a year. Because our stack is deliberately small, updates are usually a single row of the table. The version published here is the current one.
10 Questions
If a cookie appears in your browser on this domain that is not listed above, we would like to know. Write to the records mailbox and include the name and the date you saw it, and we will trace where it came from and either document it or remove it.
